Severe infection and its evolution to sepsis are becoming more frequent and are among the main causes of critical illness and mortality, being one of the most frequent reasons for admission to hospital and intensive care units.
The main goal of the GREPSIS consortium is the demonstration of the feasibility and deployment of multiplexed Graphene Field Effect Transistor (GFET) based biosensors strategy for a fast and ultrasensitive differential diagnosis of bacterial vs nonbacterial human infection diseases at a large scale and in a remote fashion.
As a proof-of-concept, this technology will focus on the preparation of a medical device able to carry out the rapid differential diagnosis of bacterial infections at the point of-care.
The lethality of severe infections is 10%-20% higher than that of stroke, acute myocardial infarction or severe trauma, and increases to 40% when septic shock occurs.
The rapid advance of nanoscience and nanotechnology enables the deployment of low-cost, highly selective, sensitive, and easy-to-interpret diagnostic systems for point-of-care testing Applications.
To achieve the objectives
2023-2026I the GREPSIS project will participate: HOP UBIQUITOUS, Atrys Health, Ati Soluciones, the Complutense University of Madrid, the University of Granada, and the Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves of Granada.
